Fish compatible with the betta fish

These fish can express a very aggressive behavior when they feel that their territory is being invaded by another animal, generally other fish, because of this, it is important that if we are going to have more than one betta fish, we have an aquarium large enough and with places that function as shelters. This aggressiveness can be so serious, to the point of killing other fish, even of the same species. In this article, you will learn to differentiate which species may or may not coexist with your pet.

One of the most important general keys is to select fish with small fins and unobtrusive colors, as bettas sometimes tend to attack them more frequently.

Compatible fish

Borrachito (Hemigrammus rhodostomus)

They are very active fish, peaceful and live in shoals. They are small to medium sized fish, can reach a maximum size of 5 cm and generally females are larger than males.

Betta females (Betta splendens)

If we only have females of this species, we can have all that we want together, however, if there is a male present, it is advisable to have a minimum of 3 females so that the possible pressure made by the male does not focus only on a female.

Otocinclo (Otocinclus affinis)

They’re small fish, totally peaceful. They play a very useful role in the aquarium as it feeds on algae, remains of food and sometimes dead fish.

Kuhlii fish (Pangio kuhlii)

It is a very social fish and is usually found in small groups. They tend to occupy the bottom of the aquarium where they feed on food scraps that fall to the bottom.
